Hello my fellow Mikanakawans. The 2012 SR2-3N Section Conclave was held April 20-22 at Tarleton State University. All of the lodges in our section gathered to learn and compete, and most of all had fun and fellowship! This year Miki set a record by taking 185 arrowmen to Conclave! That is 79 more than last year. Miki had a strong showing in just about every aspect of this year’s Conclave. Also for the second year in a row Mikanakawa brought home BEST OF SECTION!!

We started our day with a wonderful breakfast provided by the campus cafeteria then headed out to classes. There were a variety of classes to attend everything from how to make moccasins to brotherhood retention. A big thanks goes out the many Mikanakawans who were instructors or ran competitions that weekend like Ricky Watson Jr., Ben Myers, Cooper Blount, Nathan Bubeck, D'Quaylon Davis, Logan Myers, Daniel Tassin, and Rick Garcia. After lunch we got geared up for ceremony, dance, and sport competitions. We ended the weekend Sunday morning with chapel, awards, and section elections where Ben Myers ran and was elected as Section Secretary. Good job Ben!

Register Today!

Scouting’s flagship event is one-of-a-kind. It’s a gathering of approximately 45,000 Scouts, leaders, and staff that showcases everything that is great about the BSA and its members. Over the course of 10 summer days, once every four years, the Boy Scouts of America comes together. The result is the national Scout jamboree. Each Jamboree Troop is made up of 36 youth participants and four adult leaders.

A New Venue: The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve

In 2009, the BSA purchased 10,600 acres of property adjacent to West Virginia’s New River Gorge National River area in order to create The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve (the Summit). The Summit is the new home of achievement, adventure, and innovation in Scouting. With world-class facilities and a focus on outdoor action sports, the Summit will welcome Scouts to a whole new jamboree experience in summer 2013.

Circle Ten Council Jamboree Package

The 2013 Circle Ten Council tour and attendance at the National Scout Jamboree will begin on Wednesday, July 10, with a return on Thursday, July 25, 2013. We will start by flying into New York City on Wednesday, visiting numerous New York City sights and on Thursday taking a bus to Washington, D.C. and staying until departing on July 15th for the Jamboree. We will depart the Jamboree on the 24th and staying the night in a Washington, D.C. area hotel and flying back to Dallas on July 25, 2013.

Mikanakawa Lodge recognizes service at our Induction weekends with a three-part patch earned over     3-Piece Ordeal Patch
several years. Only current dues paid members officially registered for the event are eligible.  The patch segments are free.

Here are the requirements -

1. A member must serve at at least nine ordeals to earn the complete set.
2. A member can earn a segment for every three ordeals.
3. A member must serve in each program segment at least once
to earn the complete set.

Program segments -

Inductions - Elangomat, Projects, Administration (holding a Lead, Chair or lodge officer/Adviser postion specific to the Induction weekend)

Native American - Ceremonies member (one of primary four characters in the two Ordeal Ceremonies or Brotherhood Ceremony), Team Adviser (support with training, preparation, evaluation)

Service - Service Corps, ArrowBistro, Trading Post, Registration, First Aid

Example - Brother Joe loves the kitchen life. He can earn all three segments by staying in the ArrowBistro seven times and serving

Example - Adult member Bart loves the meet and greet at registration. He can earn all three segments by serving in registration
seven times and serving on the projects staff once and as a Team Adviser for his local chapter team with preperation
and evaluating their work before they perform.

Certainly we would hope each member would mix up their service more than the two above examples.
Earning the patch is retroactive to the March 2011 Induction weekend based on registration staff lists.
The Ordeal Lead and Adviser are responsible for maintaing records of which members served in each area.
