SummitCorps - The New River Experience
Before the excitement of attending the 2013 National Jamboree at the Bechtel Summit, the Order of the Arrow has been called to provide service to trails from the Jamboree site to the River. The National Order of the Arrow Committee is pleased to announce SummitCorps - The New River Experience - a hybrid of ArrowCorps5 and our OA High Adventure programs. During July 2011, SummitCorps - The New River Experience will provide service to the New River Gorge National River in West Virginia. Upgrading the trail bed of the Garden Grand Hike and Bike Trail, along with invasive species removal, will be the focus of the project. The Garden Grand Hike and Bike Trail connects the New River Gorge National River to the Boy Scout's new high adventure base and home of the Jamboree - The Summit: The Bechtel Family National Reserve.
Mikanakawa will attend the last week of SummitCorps, July 24-30. We will leave Saturday morning July 23rd. We will return Friday night July 31. Similar to ArrowCorps5 and our High Adventure programs, the week will consist of service and recreation opportunities.
The cost for each lodge participant is $500. The cost includes event fee, transportation, meals to and from (Lamberts!), on-site activity, special border lodge flap, and a lodge t-shirt. The four week event is limited to 425 participants nation-wide per week. We will send 36 Lodge members to the last week, July 24-30th. Youth and adults may participate. A $100 deposit per person is due now so we can secure open spots to reach our participation goal. Final payment is due April 1, 2011. Download the form for your deposit or full payment. An on line form is now available for payment.
Participants are required to meet the BSA High Adventure Height/Weight Requirements found on the BSA Annual Health and Medical Form. Participants are responsible for their own tents and camping gear.
